Karl Voit :emacs: :orgmode:
During the last 2 years with #NixOS, I've mentioned multiple times that my system performance is very poor on my backup notebook: Lenovo #X260 with a 2y old crucial 2TB SATA SSD BX500 2.5"

After setting it up with Debian 13 on the 2TB SSD as well as on the original 250GB SSD, I have to say that the 2TB SSD seems to be the culprit: the system behaves very weird with sluggish waiting/resume/..., system updates take hours instead of minutes, ...

So it wasn't NixOS, but the 2TB SATA SSD. 😔

However, I'm glad to get rid of NixOS step by step anyway for other reasons, being able to run Python scripts again being the most important to me. (Please don't give me any Nix-python advice anymore, I've spent too many days on that issue without a sustainable fix.)

#ThinkpadX260

thelinuxcast
Spent the evening scripting my own version of #NixOS Home Manager. I don't care for the complexity of HM when all I really want is to bring my dotfiles with me when I reinstall NixOS.

The Nix bros will tell you this is possible, and even easy, but then they'll all give you different ways of doing it. Too complex for a simple problem.

syd 💕
If a package has an src/lib/*.c and *.h folder
One .a file and one .so will nixpkgs be happy to split that into two-four packages?

I think majority of the current deps of rocketdb use either .so or the src files, not sure if the .a file even helps. Also it seems dangerous for rockdb rust which is many versions behind but still is use
#nixos

Mike :nixos:
Ok, team #Linux assemble!!

With lots of help, I've had great success customizing the #nixos installer to install #nixbook after the base install.

However, the FINAL part is wanting to install a few #flatpak at the same time.

The flathub remote adds fine, but the flatpaks won't install because there is no dbus service in this chroot (nixos_enter) environment.

Please tell me there is a way around this?!?! Id rather have it done here instead of trying to wire something on first boot.

thelinuxcast
#2yearlinuxchallenge Check In. Still going strong, 19 days down. #NixOS is pretty good.

Mike :nixos:
Massive thanks to MatthieuBarthel on GitHub (not sure if they're here).

This is the most progress we've had on a dedicated installer, being able to select the #nixbook version, and it runs the install script after.

So. Cool. Being able to customize the #NixOS installer like this.

Few little tweaks and some issues with flatpak installing, but so close to something shippable!

Mike :nixos:
What are all y'all's laptops looking like? Since @leandrofriedrich sadly didn't manage to finish his #postmarketOS ears last time, I secretly took on the idea, added "idiotic" modularity and took it to a next level. Now with #NixOS and #AsahiLinux support too! + optional AirPods Max support courtesy of @adafruit ❤️

p.s. ignore my sloppy work, this is the first time I'm doing something related to 3D printing
p.s. 2: I'm surprised that it survived my trains and flights all the way from Slovakia to #EuskalEncounter in Spain.
