This feature is called <a href="https://blogs.kde.org/2025/08/02/this-week-in-plasma-day/night-theme-switching/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Automatic Day/Night Theme Switching</a>, and it uses the sunrise and the sunset times, configured for your location, to automatically change the desktop themes according to the time of the day.</p><p>To be more specific, if you’re using your computer during the day time, KDE Plasma 6.5 will automatically change the theme of your desktop to the light theme of your choice. In the contrary, if you’re using your desktop during the night, the desktop environment will change the theme to the dark theme of your choice.</p><p>You can also choose which of the global themes are shown right from the quick settings, making configuration easier and faster than ever. Alongside that, you can also turn on automatic day/night theme switching from there, too! This means that you have two ways to enable this long-awaited feature.</p><p>This feature will land to the final version of KDE Plasma 6.5, which will be released <a href="https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_6#Future_releases" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">on October 21st</a>. However, distributions may take time to utilize this version of KDE Plasma, depending on what distribution you’re running. For example, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will use this version of KDE Plasma, while Arch Linux picks up the latest version in the matter of days.</p><p><a href="https://www.pexels.com/photo/woman-in-brown-jacket-sitting-on-armchair-while-using-her-laptop-6893805/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Photo by Mikhail Nilov</a></p><p><span></span></p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/kde/" target="_blank">#KDE</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/kde-plasma/" target="_blank">#KDEPlasma</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/kde-plasma-6/" target="_blank">#KDEPlasma6</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/kde-plasma-6-5/" target="_blank">#KDEPlasma65</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/linux/" target="_blank">#Linux</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/linux-desktop/" target="_blank">#LinuxDesktop</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/news/" target="_blank">#news</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/tech/" target="_blank">#Tech</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/technology/" target="_blank">#Technology</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/update/" target="_blank">#update</a></p>
