I don't recall (and haven't gone looking) if I said anything, but my initial assessment of Digikam (on Linux) wasn't positive.It was _yet_ _another_ piece of photo software that wanted to index photos before letting you do anything else. And indexing...takes a while.

But I came back to it today, and...it runs smoothly. Moving around photos and folders is fast, not getting bogged down. Tagging and tag search works well. A bit of poking around and I was able to get it to import earlier keywords too. So, yep, worth giving a bit of a chance. I'm on version 8.4.0, there's an 8.7.0 out so will look to upgrade.

ich will ja nicht angeben, aber es ist mir gestern gelungen, nach einigem Zögern, #linux_mint einfach von einer früheren Version auf die nächste zu updaten. Das Ganze hat mich vielleicht 15 Minuten gekostet. Was waren das noch für Zeiten, als man unter #Windows für so eine Aktion mindestens einen Tag veranschlagen musste, bis alles so lief, wie man wollte und den Kram dann noch irgendwo registrieren musste. Und ja, #Linux kostet nix UND nervt nicht mit #Werbung.

Bonjour les camarades, j'ai besoin d'aide. Sous #linux_mint j'ai comme un soucis avec le fait de me connecter à Steam. J'ai même changé le mot de passe, j'arrive à me co sans le moindre soucis sous windows, mais sous mint, c'est juste du "non, vous vous trompez, vous êtes trop nul"
Quand on demande de l'aide, j'ai surtout de l'error code -100 (je serais hors-ligne... alors même que je vous écris ça sur l'ordi et que je peux aller sur mon explorateur sans le moindre soucis)...

Rescued an old desktop which had been decomissioned as too slow and laggy for Windows even with 8GB RAM

Now running #linux_mint - I tried the #Debian edition but it was still a bit laggy with Cinnamon DE and also managed to hose its CUPS configuration immediately after the first update.

Had better luck with the #Ubuntu based edition (even though I didn't want to use Ubuntu as much) and it runs XFCE desktop very fast.

Even the printer still works! This might go in the next office as a backup PC, if they don't want it I will probably take it home with me and use it there..
