Indonesia is rightfully proud of being the first developing country to operate its own domestic satellite system , called Palapa.

It was launched in July 1976.

#BIOMASS is up!!!! (I said this before in a reply, but feeling quite excited 'bout it!)
#BIOMASS
is a feat of both science and engineering. It's taken a massive technical capability (deploy a big, fuck-off antenna in orbit), followed by lobbying to allow P band to be used for science, and tons of science research (complicated artefacts from long wavelength and ionosphere, orbital maneuvers to obtain pretty cool imaging modes like tomography, field campaigns to understand what it the hell this thing is measuring, ...), and about 25 years since it was first discussed to get to this. And continued funding from #ESA as well as member countries.
