I don't know if it's because of all the months I've spent using and configuring #AwesomeWM or because #python is so much more powerful and easy to read and write than #lua (at least to me), but in the last couple of days I've been giving a shot at #qtile and it's just great.

It took me just a few hours to replicate my Awesome set up, and although people really like to say "python == slow", it feels smoother and snappier than any other TWM I've used so far.

Kudos to Qtile!

Сменил обычные хоткеи на Vi-like хоткеи.

На самом деле, прикольно. Не надо зажимать кнопки, чтоб управлять размерами, местоположением и прочими вещами. Осталось ПОЛНОСТЬЮ перепрыгнуть на (Neo-)Vim...

Там ещё есть, что допиливать, есть что изменять.
Так что, сильно швыряться тапками, аля "а какого тут это или это не работает" не надо.

Если работает - повезло. Нет - ну увы.

Looking at #lightweight #Linux distros and window managers. I already know I like #CrunchBang and its standard #OpenBox from when I last daily-drove Linux, So #CrunchBang++ and #BunsenLabs are obvious first picks, and have already made it onto my #Easy2Boot / #Ventoy #LiveUSB, but I've also peeked at #Nobara and decided to try it on for size as well.

Looking at a few other window managers, I was pretty impressed by #AwesomeWM and have also heard good things about #FluxBox.

All will suit my needs more or less equally (and any can be modified or switched), that each just have unique flavors, quirks, and footprints.

It's let's install #linux day.

I tried installing minimal #debian with #awesomewm + #lightdm and I fucked up my lightdm.conf so that nothing was able to start.

New plan: install Debian with #xfce so that xorg/lightdm/etc actually works, and then uninstall what I don't want, and try adding awesome again. 1/

I managed to move to #AwesomeWM from #dwm, after discovering that #suckless folks are a bunch of nazis.
Also, I had some stability issues that with all the C patching were hard to debug.
I gotta say dwm's workflow and defaults are just great, though, and I HAD to replicate most of it in Awesome.

It's not a minimalistic wm, it has so many features by default but such a great documentation though.

The problem is that I'm definitely not a fan of #lua, but I'll take it over nazis anytime. #linux

I'm thinking about trying Awesome as a Window Manager. Have any of you tried it?

I used i3 several years ago and was very satisfied with it. I've also heard about dwm.

What do you use and what do you recommend?
