Do you have any experience with or opinion about the #Hyperland compositor? I would like to hear about it, as it sounds awesome on paper and looks great on screenshots. I'm planning to change to a tiling window manager and wonder how it compares to other alternatives. I have tried #Qtile before and liked it. I was also interested in #xmonad, because it can be configured with #Haskell, but I'll rather focus on #Wayland options and I think there are no ports in the horizon.

quick question:

I don't know if it's because of all the months I've spent using and configuring #AwesomeWM or because #python is so much more powerful and easy to read and write than #lua (at least to me), but in the last couple of days I've been giving a shot at #qtile and it's just great.

It took me just a few hours to replicate my Awesome set up, and although people really like to say "python == slow", it feels smoother and snappier than any other TWM I've used so far.

Kudos to Qtile!

EDIT: a word.

Last year, we managed to get Qtile into the official Fedora repositories. Today we did the same for qtile-extras. It will take a week or so until it gets into stable but after that, you can simply run:

dnf install qtile-extras

Ich habe mit hyprland angefangen und nachdem ich mehr über den Entwickler erfahren habe bin ich zu #qtile gewechselt

Tilling ist sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig aber mir gefällt das mittlerweile sehr gut

qtile muss ich aber noch sehr auf mich anpassen und darüber werde ich hier auch unregelmäßig berichten

Am besten gefällt da ich alles mit #Python selbst hacken kann ich kann also meine eigene spezielle Version erstellen

So mein neues #tiling Experiment mit #qtile hat mich schon angefixt da alles in #Python geschrieben wird kann selbst ich sehr schnell sehr spezielle Anpassung machen

Das macht schon richtig fun

Aber ich bin da noch sehr am Anfang und muss das gesamte Potenzial nach und nach erstmal ergründen

Und integrierte qtile Test der config ist der wichtig bevor man die Aktiv nimmt... Trust me

Had my go with #hyprland and #qtile once more and I really like those two "WMs".

But I'm back on #KDE #plasma right now. It's just so good. Fast, stable and it's kinda refreshing that you're having an easy to theme desktop. No thinking about wrong/inconsistent cursors or other thinks. Don't get me wrong. From time to time I love to tinker around but for work an consistency I love a normal, modern DE.

The readme provides keyboard shortcuts configuration, as well as a visual guide to understand how the layout can be used. Great level of documentation quality here that I'd like to see in the built-in layouts too

Maybe splitting the built-in stuff out of core would encourage such modularity, decoupling release cycles at the same time? What do you think #Qtile folks?

Hey @FrostyX hope all is well! I’m currently testing out #Fedora40 (which is pretty good in my opinion) but now I’ve finally got #qtile in the repos thanks to you! I was curious about the Qtile-extras package though. Will that end up going into the repos too or do we still just have to use the copr repo for the extras package? I just noticed that qtile-extras doesn’t get pulled in whenever you install qtile. Again, no biggie. There’s a copr repo for it but I was just wondering if it was planned in the future!

Edit: I didn’t realize that you maintained the qtile-extras package as well! So if I can only get that package from installing your old qtile copr repo, how would one go about installing it now? Sorry for bombarding you with questions! I’m just curious

Believe that I've finally sorted out the audio issue on my #ArcoLinux install.

Next up, figure out how to increase the font and window display size in #Qtile, especially on my external monitor!

This is the first time I've used a tiling window manager, so switched back to #Xfce for now!

I mostly do (web) development and use #qtile as window manager, so I don't care about the default window manager.
